From Breaking Stones to Building Dreams: Faith’s Journey Back to School

“My name is Faith and I am an orphan, and I come from a very humble background. Life has never been easy, but through every hardship, I have held on to hope.”

For years, Faith’s dream of education felt completely out of reach. Growing up in rural northern Uganda in a family of 13, her days were often defined by hunger, hard labor, and heartbreak.

In 2019, she completed her primary school education, eager to continue learning. But the financial reality hit hard, there was no money to send her to secondary school. She spent the next few years waiting, holding on to hope while her dream of returning to school grew dimmer.

In 2023, Faith moved in with her aunt in hopes of learning tailoring skills. She thought it might be a new beginning. But instead of being welcomed or supported, she faced abuse.

Her aunt made her work in the garden from morning until evening without food. Days would pass where Faith had nothing to eat. She was overworked, mistreated, and denied even the basics of care. The time she spent there, she says, “was a living hell.”

Still determined to survive, Faith began breaking stones in a quarry to earn just enough money for essentials like soap, notebooks, and clothes. Under the hot sun, she chipped away at rocks and her own exhaustion, clinging to the hope that maybe, one day, she’d return to school.

That day finally came in 2025.

Through the Te-Kworo Foundation’s scholarship program, Faith was welcomed into Kworo High School. The moment she arrived, her life began to change.

“The school provides a safe, welcoming environment — something I had never known before. For the first time in years, I feel peace of mind. I can sleep without fear and study without hunger.”

At Kworo, she receives daily meals, emotional and academic support, and the dignity of a proper education. The teachers are kind, patient, and passionate, helping Faith believe in herself again.

“For the first time, I am accessing quality education. This has lifted a heavy burden off my shoulders and given me hope for the future.”

Faith is one of over 1,000 students enrolled across Te-Kworo’s three campuses in 2025 and her story is just one of many.

But more than 200 new students have joined us this year than expected and we urgently need support to keep them in school.
