Moved to Act: How a Visit to Uganda Sparked a $40,000 Water Appeal

In February this year, a group of six Australian women — Laura, Emily, Jas, Kate, Vanessa, and Philippa Tyndale (our Australian Chair) — travelled to Northern Uganda to visit Te-Kworo Foundation. What they experienced on the ground changed their lives and inspired action.

Over several days, they spent time at two of our three school campuses (Pader and Nwoya), joined a mobile clinic outreach in a nearby village, and visited our Maternal Health Clinic and our hospital currently under construction.

But what left the deepest impact wasn’t just the facilities or programs, it was the people.

“We loved meeting the girls. Spending time with them, playing volleyball, dancing, going to class, hearing their stories, and worshipping together at Sunday service was so moving. God’s presence was undeniable, and the joy of the Lord truly is their strength.”

They were also struck by the dedication of our staff, many of whom are from the very communities they serve. Their passion and commitment to caring for the girls and improving access to health and education left a lasting impression.

Seeing the Need Firsthand

While at our Pader campus, the group saw how difficult daily life could be without consistent access to water. More than 800 students share just one manual pump for drinking, bathing, cooking, and cleaning. In Uganda’s dry season, this often means long lines, heavy buckets, and not enough water to go around.

When they heard from our founder, Alice Achan, about the dream to install a solar-powered water system along with proper toilets and showers, the women knew they wanted to help.

Turning Compassion Into Action

Once home in Australia, the group partnered with our Te-Kworo team to launch a fundraising campaign. Their goal was to raise funds for the water project. Through the generosity of friends, family, and their wider community, they raised nearly $40,000.

That support has now helped us reach our total goal. Soon, girls at the Pader campus will have access to clean water and safe, dignified facilities — and more time to focus on their studies, health, and dreams.

“Every girl and every staff member is so precious in the sight of God,” they said. “We’re incredibly thankful for every prayer, gift, and message of support.”

This project isn’t just about water. It’s about dignity. Safety. And opportunity.
